Our founder´s, Terry Peterman, passion has always been his community and the people who live there. While pastoring, Terry saw the pain that many individuals and family were experiencing. These people came from every walk of life and many were unable to find suitable help because they were financially disadvantaged. Terry also recognized that most counselling services did not see the need to address the spiritual needs of man. It was these experiences that inspired the vision and dream of affordable counselling.
As a pastor, Terry was asked to give counsell to church members and to individuals in the community. It was through this experience that Terry realized that some individuals needed just a few counselling sessions to bring help and direction. But in other situations there were individuals that were in need of long-term help and guidance. Like many pastors, where time is relevant, Terry did not have the time to commit to long-term counselling for these individuals. Realizing this need, Terry´s desired to provide counselling, as a ministry, for churches and pastors so they will have a safe place to send their parishioners.
In March 1999 The Counseling Center (TCC) began with a vision of affordable counselling that was to be ministry and addressed the spitual needs of a individual. Since we began in 1999 TCC has averaged over 1000 hours of counselling yearly in the City of Edmonton and surrounding communities. We at TCC truly believe that we are reaching families and individuals with a message of hope.
The apostle Paul sums up our vision in Galatians 6v.v. 1 to 3:
To keep the vision of affordable counseling viable, we need prayer, workers and financial supporters. Please see Our Needs to find out how to partner with us.
Live creatively, friends. If someone falls into sin, forgivingly restore him, saving your critical comments for yourself. You might be needing forgiveness before the day's out. Stoop down and reach out to those who are oppressed. Share their burdens, and so complete Christ's law. If you think you are too good for that, you are badly deceived.
